En plenos momentos de confinamiento estricto entre Caracas y California (junio 2020)
nace Colorful Sessions of Wildlife and Pets, un proyecto iniciado por Casey Beres (Potbelly Mackraken) y Rafael Frías (Ska Jazz Messengers) dentro de una empatía no sólo musical sino natural, humana;
de amor y respeto hacia los animales y todo lo que engloba la naturaleza.

Con todo ello en común y con muchas ideas musicales por compartir, inicia una primera tormenta de ideas que daban como resultado un proyecto muy informal para tocar algo de Ska, Rocksteady y Reggae a propósito de alguna actividad recreativa en aquellos días tan extraños en la pandemia global. Sin embargo, Rafa propone a Casey llevar el proyecto un paso más allá, invitando a músicos de diferentes partes del mundo; unos amigos y otros a los que por vez primera contactaría para invitarles a participar. Músicos inicialmente curados por Rafa y admirados por
ambos.

Colorful Sessions of Wildlife & Pets inicia formalmente con una composición bautizada "All the Pets of the World", en la que Rafa de manera muy casera, armó una progresión y sobre ella una melodía
con su vieja guitarra acústica, grabando todo con el micrófono de su celular. Una vez enviada dicha idea a Casey, éste comenzó a darle magia con más instrumentos y toda vez se definió la estructura
de la canción, Rafa invitó al line up de músicos que terminarían de dar vida al primer single del proyecto: Cynthia Juárez (talentosa cantante y multi instrumentista regiomontana), Tomás García (virtuoso multi
instrumentista caraqueño residenciado en Madrid), Victor Laguna Gandía (reconocido baterista catalán en The Kinky Coo Coo's entre otros grupos catalanes) y Ronald Alvarado (trompetista de Ska Jazz Messengers y gran
compañero musical de Rafa). Con todo esto sobre la mesa, el proyecto inicia formalmente.

Semanas más tarde nacen más ideas y más canciones y es así como en un periodo de 3 meses tienen un repertorio de 6 canciones, todas estas con músicos japoneses, tailandeses, españoles, brasileros, holandeses, peruanos, chilenos, paraguayos, argentinos y estadounidenses. La idea de ambos es que cada canción del repertorio presente un line up de músicos diferentes y en efecto así sucedió con estas 6 primeras canciones. Pero...una vez más y ante la emoción de oír cómo iba sonando el proyecto, tanto Casey como Rafa, decidieron ser un poco más ambiciosos y llevar esas 6 piezas que en teoría conformarían el EP debut de Colorful Sessions of Wildlife & Pets a un disco de 12 composiciones
(90% propias). Todos estos elementos "alquímicos-sonoros" dan como resultado un track list de Ska, Rocksteady y Reggae con armonías jazzeras, otras un tanto más experimentales y un line up de músicos que o nunca habían tocado juntos o ni siquiera se conocían antes, burlando barreras idiomáticas y geográficas y aprovechando al máximo todo el tiempo de "oscurantismo" moderno por el que ha pasado el planeta desde 2020.

El disco espera ser editado en 2021, aún están en conversaciones con sellos disqueros para lanzarse en alguna edición en físico pero además, ambos músicos tienen ya una lista de nuevos temas y nuevas ideas para continuar con este excitante proyecto. No conforme, cada uno por su lado sigue editando música y trabajando en sus proyectos iniciales (Potbelly Mackraken y Ska Jazz Messengers)

In the beginnings of strict lockdown in both Caracas and California (June 2020) Colorful Sessions of Wildlife and Pets is born. A project started by Casey Beres (Potbelly Mackraken) and Rafael Frías (Ska Jazz Messengers), it was born out a shared undying love for the Golden Era of Jamaican music (60s-70s) and humane empathy and respect for animals and everything that nature encompasses.

The first incarnation began as a very informal project to play and home record some Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae as a means of killing time/boredom and giving each a purpose and something to look forward to and keep themselves busy with during those initial strange days of the global pandemic. However, Rafa proposes to Casey to take the project one step further by inviting musicians from different parts of the world to participate in the recording process, some friends and others whom he Rafa) would contact for the first time to invite them to participate. These were musicians initially curated by Rafa and admired by both of them.

Colorful Sessions of Wildlife & Pets formally begins with a composition called "All the Pets of the World ", in which Rafa, in a very simple, lofi way, put together a progression and a melody with his old acoustic guitar, recording everything with the microphone of his cell phone. He then emailed this to Casey who brought it to life and gave it magic by adding more instruments and effects. As the structure of the song progressed, Rafa invited the following line up of musicians who would finish giving life to the first single:

-Cynthia Juárez (talented singer and multi instrumentalist from Monterrey), -Tomás García (multi virtuoso Caracas instrumentalist residing in Madrid), -Victor Laguna Gandía (renowned drummer Catalan in The Kinky Coo Coo's among other Catalan groups),
-Ronald Alvarado (trumpeter of Ska Jazz Messengers and great Rafa's musical partner).
And so the project formally began.

Weeks later, more ideas and more songs were born, and in a period of 3 months, Casey and Rafa together composed and arranged a repertoire of 6 songs, inviting Japanese, Thai, Spanish musicians, Brazilian, Dutch, Peruvian, Chilean, Paraguayan, Argentinian and American musicians to record the various instruments required to bring the songs to life.

But, with the excitement of hearing how the project was sounding, Casey and Rafa once again decided to be a little more ambitious and take those 6 songs for the debut EP of Colorful Sessions of Wildlife & Pets to and add 6 more to make it a full 12 song album. Each song would have as its foundation the Jamaican Ska, Rocksteady or Reggae loved by all involved in the project, mixing in jazzy harmonies with the Jamaican riddims, but some of the tunes would be a bit more experimental. The goal was to produce for each song a line up of musicians who had either never played together or never even knew each other before, circumventing barriers idiomatic and geographic and making the most of their time in global lockdown.

The album is expected to be released hopefully sometime in 2021; Casey and Rafa are still in negotiation with record labels in order to produce the recordings in some physical form (a la CD, Vinyl, Tape, etc.). Additionally, both Casey and Rafa already have a list of new themes and new ideas to continue this exciting project beyond the initial planned album, in addition to continuing their initial projects Potbelly Mackraken and Ska Jazz Messengers.

For now till the album becomes more concrete, here is our first self produced single to tickle your taste buds in anticipation of the other delicious tracks we can't wait to release on the album.
