The Mighty Vikings, Llans Thelwell & His Celestials, Prince Buster, etc).

***ENGLISH***

Rafa:

This third and picturesque single is born from a full sound inspiration between the Traditional Ska of the 60's (that labeled as “KILLER SKA”) and, in turn, is colored with a bit of that color of the Japanese Ska of the early 2000's (also inspired by in that vintage Caribbean sound: The Mighty Vikings, Llans Thelwell & His Celestials, Prince Buster, etc). A perhaps not so imaginary story of a parrot that waits for everyone at home to fall asleep to fly from its small place of residence (a kind of home garden) to the kitchen; all very well thought out, very well plotted and with perfect tricks to be able to peer into a hole that only he knows and that leads him dawn after dawn to collect more "edible jewels" for his treasure: nuts, fruits, food scraps and whatever see poorly placed on the counter of said kitchen. That's Parrot Thief. Nobody sees it, everyone wonders about the banana, the piece of pizza, the cookies, the piece of bread or the grapes that were on the table, but they end up forgetting as the day goes by and the occupations of each person. Perhaps, in one of those early mornings, someone will see the intelligent parrot of the house, doing his thing; Or maybe not…

The song was born from a short but solid demo that Casey had and that Rafa heard when they were looking for more songs to complete the album's track list. Rafa felt completely attracted to what Casey once called "False Cognate" and that's how they both began to work on finishing the structure of the song, creating a safer melody based on that idea and while all that was happening, the list of musicians was selected by Rafa in a small blog of notes. This is how taking into consideration that tasty color that the Japanese give to the so-called Killer Ska, he thought of inviting some of the musicians from bands that they both admire from that Japanese scene of the early 2000's: mule train, the eskargot miles or Dreamlets . Likewise, (and as the main idea of the project) Rafa selected the remaining line up with musicians from the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico and South Korea: the result, an INCREDIBLE line up that ended up giving the color that both wanted for this song.

Casey:

This tune began it's life sometime around 2004-5 on my 16 track Yamaha PSR-240 mixing station keyboard, which recorded on floppy disk (😆). I would play whatever tunes I recorded on the keyboard workstation live while playing guitar along with it, which I recorded on my little cassette tape recorder. That was it; that was my tech at the time. I was at Snow College in Ephraim, UT at the time attempting to study music and I was such a introverted loner, what time I wasn't in class I was either skateboarding or more likely I was composing music on that Yamaha keyboard & guitar/tenor sax in my apartment room....it was hard to do with roommates & I had to wait till they were all gone to record anything on the tape recorder.

The name & theme was inspired by a surveillance video put up on youtube that I had sent to Raff of a seagull waltzing right into a convenience store somewhere (Britain I think, maybe?), stealing a bag of chips in its mouth (crisps in the UK) & waltzing right back out like a gangsta! We decided to change the bird from a seagull to a parrot, cuz, well, parrots are cooler and much more colorful and Raff sees them a lot in Caracas, so it became known as Parrot Thief. That's the fun little story behind this tune.
